Financial sustainability in Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland (HSC) – getting a grip | Eimear McCauley, director of finance and Brendan McGrath, assistant director of nursing, Western Health and Social Care Trust

Addressing Health Inequalities
Did you know that men in the most deprived areas of England live almost 10 years less than those in the least deprived areas? And that black people are four times more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act than white people?
Addressing the unfair and avoidable differences in health that exist between different groups of people is an ongoing NHS priority, and finance has an important role to play in driving this agenda forward. To help finance teams with this, the HFMA has produced a range of resources. These include:
- online bitesize courses covering an introduction to health inequalities, as well as learning on using data, allocating resources, and developing business cases
- briefings explaining health inequalities and the role that finance professionals can play in addressing them
- case studies highlighting work that NHS organisations are doing and a data sources map signposting to guidance and national statistics and data
- news and commentary on developments to the health inequalities landscape
- online events and conferences focusing on key aspects of health inequalities.
