Mersey Forensic Psychology Service led two workshops at this year’s NOTA international conference. The National Organisation for the Treatment of Abuse provides a support and education network for professionals working to prevent sexual abuse.
Consultant Clinical Psychologists Dr Lisa Wright and Dr Mark Walton (right) were amongst presenters from around the world discussing innovative approaches to action against sexual abuse. They shared the team’s work that had been developed over many years. Our psychologists Jo Dodsworth, Elliw Glyn and Jessica Palmer (below right) presented on the service’s work with parents, demonstrating how they were improving their ability to protect their children from sexual harm. The focus was very much on real world application of their work.
Around 280 people were at the event in Newcastle. This included academics, social workers, psychologists, police and crime agency professionals, probation and prison staff as well as former victims’ commissioner Dame Vera Baird and the clinical psychologist Dr Elly Hanson who spoke about her recently published report on organised ritual abuse for the National Police Chief’s Council and NAPAC.
Dr Wright tells us that the team are regulars at this important event and the two workshops which the team ran were both well received and well attended.
