Our OTs in Ashworth Hospital held a successful awareness day to mark national Occupational Therapy Week. Lead OT Lucy Moores tells us that their day at Indigo was a big success with many positive comments and feedback from staff, students, inductees and external guests. They had more than 40 visitors and a special visit from a service dog! Lucy says: “The day reminded me why I chose to study Occupational Therapy and how proud I am of the profession and the difference we all make. Thank you to all who helped and joined us.”

The national theme this year from the Royal College of Occupational Therapy is: The Power of OT – transforming health and social care. And our Ashworth team said their day reflected that, along with colleagues across the Trust who have a changed and improved understanding of Occupational Therapy.

Lucy said: “We have staff who want to integrate and work closely with us, staff who said that they want work in the team and who will look out for jobs, and staff who now value and respect the therapy service.”

The day at Indigo focussed on processes like assessment, through treatment, sensory integration, strategies, aids and adaptations as well as outcomes.
