This week our new low secure site was highly commended for service user involvement at the Design in Mental Health Awards. Aspen Wood, which will open in the autumn, has seen high levels of engagement with our learning disability service users. They have been involved throughout with the design and also choosing names for areas in the building. There have been some memorable days working with the artists who are now realising their ideas as works of art and practical features around the new build.

The national recognition is a great achievement for the team and recognises the work of our project and engagement leads, the art strategy and of course the service users and staff on Maplewood. As Elaine Darbyshire, Executive Director of Estates, says: “This is a stellar result especially when the site isn’t even finished and it highlights the co-production we have with our service users throughout.”
