This week saw service users and staff holding a PRIDE event and flag raising at our Whalley site.

On Thursday, people wore decorated coloured t-shirts and completed a walk of the grounds to celebrate PRIDE. Comments included: “It was great to see service users and staff from all departments joining in the fun!” and “Everyone had such a good time”.

Fiona Gibson, Head of Nursing for Learning Disabilities took the opportunity to say a huge thank you and goodbye to equalities lead Margaret Brown, who retires from Mersey Care soon. Colleagues wished her well with many saying how much Margaret will be missed!

The organisers want to say a big thank you to service users and staff for their support.  And there’s a special thank you to the Recovery Team in Our Shared College, Occupational Therapy, facilities, domestics and the admin department for supporting and organising a fantastic day. The team have been planning the event for weeks, the event had to be COVID safe and had to be planned meticulously.

Service users loved be part of the activities and thanked the staff for their support.

The team have organised more celebrations next week with the next PRIDE event taking place next week, 20 July in St Luke’s Hall. These will include:

  • Refreshments
  • Creative arts
  • Photos and Prop
  • Music
  • T-shirt decorating
  • Occupational identity
  • Beauty and pampering
