A new clinical and operational model was developed and approved by the Trust Board in September 2023. This model gives a clear direction to standardise and develop the service across the three areas of Sefton, Knowsley and Liverpool.

Due to the TUPE  and the acquisition of Mid Mersey and Liverpool in joining Sefton to form the Community Care Division of Mersey Care,  it was recognised the three places have different opening and closing times.

It has also been recognised the current model of service does not allow time for essential preparation and leadership for safety huddle/handover, equipment, RESUS trolly checks, completion of concise health records, time to report incidents as appropriately and team meetings etc.

The service is also inequitable in terms of times available for access for patients across the division, this leads to confusion and in some cases unnecessary travelling to other sites.

Therefore, there is a recognised need for organisational change via formal consultation.

All Places

Operational hours will be 7.30am to 8:30pm across Sefton, Knowsley and Liverpool UTC and WIC centres. This will allow for team meeting safety huddles, checking equipment etc.

Clinical opening hours will be 8am to 8pm across all sites in all place based areas.

Patients will have access to all eight sites between the hours as above.

The trust has agreed that all shifts in excess of six hours must include a minimum of 30 minutes unpaid break. In most cases this should be in one block to allow for mealtimes but can be split into a 20 minute and a ten minute break.

Colleagues are allowed to leave their workstations for health and wellbeing purpose but should inform their managers or shift coordinator so they can be contacted should the need arise.

There will be circumstances where staff would need to return from their break should an operational or incident need arises.
