On Tuesday 10 February, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) at Rowan View hosted a health and wellbeing event, bringing teams together to showcase the wide range of professions involved in patient care and strengthen multidisciplinary working.

The event featured interactive stands from the health centre, dietetics, speech and language therapy, psychology, occupational therapy, and pet therapy. Each team shared how they contribute to the multidisciplinary team (MDT), helping patients better understand the support available and how the different professions work together.

Pet Therapy proved especially popular, with Barney the cockerpoo stealing the show and bringing smiles and calm to everyone he met.

To encourage conversation and reflection, attendees were given an easy-read booklet to complete as they moved around the room. The booklet invited patients to consider what matters most to them and supports informed decision-making. It can also act as a patient-held record helping individuals reflect on personal goals and support meaningful discussions during future MDT reviews.

As well as improving patient understanding of the services, the event created valuable opportunities for staff to connect. By learning more about each other’s roles and expertise, teams have been able to identify ways to collaborate more closely, reduce duplication of resources, and create a more seamless patient experience.

Jenny Anderson, Speech and Language Therapist, said:

“Seeing our professions working side by side was inspiring. When we collaborate like this, we create clearer pathways for patients and a more positive, joined-up experience of care.”

Following the success of this first event, future sessions are planned, aimed at empowering patients to take an active role in their health, wellbeing, and recovery journey.
