To mark Eating Disorder Awareness Week, the Children’s Eating Disorder Service (CEDS) is proud to share the work of one young patient, including the beautiful CEDS mascot she has created for them.

Recently admitted to hospital at a severely low weight, the patient required urgent medical and nutritional support. One day two of her admission she taught herself to crochet – in just two hours.

Clinical lead Margie Pardoe says, “What began as a simple distraction became something powerful – a way to quieten the eating disorder thoughts, even briefly.  A way to focus and to create.

The patient has since created several thoughtful handmade gifts for staff and crochet has become more than a hobby, it has become a coping strategy and a grounding tool.  The team is proud to share the message that recovery is possible and creativity can be powerful.”
