During Eating Disorder Awareness Week the RAISE Mental Health Promotion Team will be delivering a series of training events designed to inform and educate professionals, parents and carers on the issues relating to eating disorders and the impact they can have on children and young people's mental health.
All Mersey Care staff should be up to date with mandatory training before booking on these courses.
Understanding ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)

Bitesize course gives an overview of ARFID in children and young people. This course will explore what ARFID is, and what it isn’t, focusing on the difference between a ‘picky eater’ and a diagnosis of ARFID. It will consider the factors that may contribute to the presentation of ARFID and the impact on a child or young person. The session will also highlight what professionals, parents and carers can do to help, including signposting to local and online support services.

Body Image

Gives an insight into what body image is and what influences struggles/concerns with body image. It explores the impact that body image issues can have on the mental health of children and young people, spotting the signs to look out for when someone is struggling, and things we can do to help, such as navigating conversations with young people. The bitesize will also provide signposting to local and national services, including the Eating Disorder Pathway in Liverpool.

Nutrition and Wellbeing – Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Delivered by the MYA RAISE Team, and Mersey Care School Health Team, this Bitesize course gives an insight into how physical health and mental health are connected by introducing you to the impact of Nutritional intake on the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. The training highlights the different types of food groups, the importance of staying hydrated, the impact of diet culture, and how to challenge food rules. The session dives into the impact of low or high calorie intake and sugar intake, and explores why regular eating is important.

An Introduction to Eating Disorders

Gives an introduction to Eating Disorders in children and young people. Highlighting the different types of Eating Disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specific Feeding / Eating Disorder [OSFED], Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder [ARFID]), the causes of Eating Disorders and the impact upon health and wellbeing. Information will also be provided on signposting to local and national services, including the Eating Disorder support pathway available in Liverpool.
