Not all NHS staff can wear Christmas jumpers — so this year, we’re pulling on our festive socks instead!
We’re delighted to launch our first ever Christmas Socks Day to raise funds and support our Mersey Care services and the people who rely on them — as well as you - our dedicated NHS teams whose care makes the world of difference every day.
Why festive socks?
Colleagues working in clinical teams across Mersey Care can’t wear Christmas jumpers while on duty — so this year we thought we’d swap out our jumpers for festive socks. They are a fun, inclusive alternative that everyone can enjoy, and are a much more affordable option too, helping more people get involved and share the cheer!
When shall I wear them?
On Thursday 11th December, simply wear your brightest, boldest festive socks and celebrate with your team (or even on your own!). Your support will help raise valuable funds for the services, wards, and communities we care for.
How to Get Involved
- Simply wear your favourite festive socks to work on Thursday 11th December.
- Contribute a small donation to support our work (a suggested amount is £2)
- Please email us your team or individual photos: charity
@merseycare.nhs.uk - You can also help our appeal by sharing your photos on social media: tagging us (handles below) and using hashtags #SocksForMerseyCares and #SockItForCharity.

How Your Support Helps
Every pound raised helps fund projects that fall outside of standard NHS budgets but have a significant impact on patients, service users, families, and staff. Your fundraising could help support:
- Suicide awareness and prevention resources
- Sensory equipment for children’s therapy sessions
- Calm, restorative outdoor spaces for recovery — and for staff to take a peaceful break away from busy ward environments
- Care packages for children arriving into care
- Resources for people living with dementia and their families
