Patients Recording Consultations
Patients and service users may legally record their consultations for personal use, and the Trust generally supports this as it can help patients understand and remember information about their care. This guidance helps staff balance openness and transparency with our responsibility to maintain confidentiality and protect everyone using our services.
Key points for staff:
- Remain professional and supportive if a patient wishes to record
- Recording should not usually prevent care from being provided
- Protect the privacy and dignity of other patients, visitors and staff at all times
- Recording of group sessions, wards or other patients without consent is not permitted
- Document any agreed or suspected recordings in the patient record and seek senior advice if concerns arise.
