Kathy Cross, Assistant Practitioner, from Community Care, took part in the British Transplant Games held between 28 July to 31 July in Leeds this year.
The Games have been held for over 40 years in different cities throughout the UK. They provide a chance to celebrate and thank those who have donated, showcase the benefits of transplantation, and encourage transplant patients to stay fit and healthy, all whilst increasing public awareness to join the NHS Organ Donation Register.
Kathy had a kidney transplant 17 years ago, her donor was her brother John. Kathy told us "I competed in the 3k race walk and won a gold medal, in 3K road race and won bronze and in 1500m and 400m, I came second and won silver!"
The Games encourage people to #havethechat with their families about their wishes for donation.
Kathy has said "I am very honoured to be able to take part in the games and continue to encourage people to have the chat."
