There will be a new lead for the Trust’s Secure Division following the retirement of Steve Newton next month.  Mental health nurse and current deputy Mark Latham has been successfully appointed.

Mark has been working at Ashworth since 1991 and has been part of the senior leadership for the last 10 years. During this time the Division has expand to include medium and low secure, forensic learning disability services from our former Whalley site, mental health services previously run by North West Boroughs, secondary mental health services in HMP Liverpool and HMP Altcourse and also opening two new hospitals on our Maghull Health Park.

Announcing the news today, Mersey Care’s Chief Delivery Officer Lee Taylor said: “Congratulations to Mark, who will be leading our Secure Division with his trademark professionalism and care. He knows the division well and is highly respected by colleagues and the wider secure networks. I look forward to working with Mark and I also want to warmly thank Steve Newton for his excellent service to the Division and to patients.”

Mark has said that Chris Stewart and Julia Anderson have been successfully appointed to acting positions as Heads of Operations in Secure Division. Chris will be leading low secure services at Aspen Wood, non-forensic Learning Disability community teams, Wavertree Bungalow and the opening of Linden Ward. Julia will be leading Community Forensic Learning Disability / Autism teams in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria, Cheshire and Mersey, as well as developing future services.
