Service users and staff celebrated a brilliant, joyful…and pink education day on the women’s Eden Ward last week.
As well as homemade cake, there were bracelets, pens and other gifts to remind the ladies about checking for breast cancer.
Event organiser and health care assistant Andrea Milward told us: “It was such a fab day for our service users and staff. I’m proud to be part of a team that promotes and supports education around a healthy body and healthy mind, enabling and supporting our service users through their journey in recovery. Hopefully we will have left a positive memory for our service users whilst in our care.”
Andrea decorated the ward in pink and provided the popular cakes for patients.
Everyone joined in – temporary tattoos for male and female staff alike – and there were informal presentations from the dieticians, health centre staff and others. The team gave practical advice to patients about how to properly examine themselves.
A real highlight for the ward was engaging with someone who’d been in segregation, and who said she felt so important being able to be part of the day.
Ward manager Craig Holden was part of the day. He said: “On Eden Ward, we strive to be the best at what we do, empowering our service users to be able to self care with the knowledge of health issues that may affect them or loved ones in the future after leaving our care.”
Staff across many disciplines joined in with guests from across the service showing their support (and maybe having a slice of cake too).
