St Helen’s LLAMS are sad to share the news that their friend and former colleague Jennifer Settle, passed away on 31 August 2025. Jenny trained as a mental health nurse at Rainhill Hospital and over her career contributed greatly across several services. Her professional interests were in the field of dementia care from early diagnosis and interventions, advance care planning and end of life care. Jenny retained an enthusiasm for service development initiatives. Notably whilst working for Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh along with colleague, Dr Kumar, developed a Pilot Collaborative Clinic for Dementia - submitted jointly for the Nursing Times Awards 2012 and achieved runner up - highly commended.

Jenny furthered this interest in her involvement with the initiation and development of a Care Home Liaison Team across five boroughs. Jenny also qualified as a non-medical prescriber at Chester University. Jenny’s final role before retirement was as Advanced Nurse Practitioner with LLAMS, St Helens Care Home Liaison Team.

One of a kind, unapologetically herself, straight talking, fiercely funny and allergic to anything with a keyboard. She loved a challenge at work - as long as it didn’t involve passwords or pop-ups. And yet she always got the job done - brilliantly, efficiently and with a touch of magic that no software could replicate. She was the care home liaison ‘mum’ - the one who always checked we were ok, always had a sense of humour, solutions or a brutally honest pep talk ready. You didn’t go to Jenny for sugar-coating - you went to her for truth, wrapped in care.

Jenny adored her family. Her stories - and there were many - always came back to them. Her pride, her joy, her reason for everything. She spoke about family and friends with warmth and humour that we felt like we knew them. Losing Jenny leaves a huge gap, not just in our team, but in our hearts. If she were here now, she’d probably roll her eyes at all this fuss, tell us to stop crying and tell us to have a Baileys in her honour. We’ll miss her more than words - or computers - can express. We extend our condolences to her family at this difficult time.

Funeral is on 29 September 2025 at 10am in St Michaels Catholic Church in Widnes, 11am at Widnes Crematorium. Dress code is usual funeral attire or uniform. All who knew her are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
