The Tissue Viability Team are pleased to confirm that the wound and pressure care training programme, along with a three‑yearly refresher via E-Learning, has been approved for Band 3 and 4 staff in community care division (Treatment rooms, UTC/WICs and District Nursing).
This training has been developed to ensure our HCA and AP workforce are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to safely support patients with wounds. The updated content aligns with national expectations set out in:
- National Wound Care Core Capabilities Framework for England (Tier 1)
- Pressure Ulcer Care Curriculum Competency
Training Requirements
Colleagues will be expected to demonstrate capability through completion of:
- The Pressure Ulcer Care Curriculum Competency booklet – to be used and signed off in practice within community nursing teams.
- The National Wound Care Core Capabilities Framework competency document – also to be used and signed off in practice.
- A three‑yearly E-Learning refresher module.
All new ‘registered’ community nursing colleagues from Band 4 Nurse associate level will now be required to complete the Tier 2 National Wound Care Core Capabilities Framework for England rather than the current Mersey Care wound care competencies.
Staff who have already completed the previous competencies and are signed off on ESR do not need to repeat them. This change will apply over the next few weeks to new starters and to staff who have not yet begun completing our wound care competencies.
