Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week (#MMHAW26) is a chance for us all to shine a light on the emotional wellbeing of mothers, birthing people and families during pregnancy and the first years after birth.
Around one in five women experience a mental health difficulty during pregnancy or the postnatal period, and timely, compassionate support can make a life changing difference. MMHAW26 is an opportunity to raise awareness, share learning and highlight the vital role our staff play every day.
Throughout the week, there are resources, messages and ways to get involved available on the Trust website. These include information on recognising the signs of perinatal mental health difficulties, understanding the impact on families, and signposting to support services across Mersey Care and partner organisations.
Our specialist perinatal services work closely with maternity, health visiting, primary care and community teams to make sure women and families receive the right support at the right time. However, every conversation counts. Whether you work in clinical services, corporate teams or support roles, being aware of maternal mental health can help create safer, more supportive experiences for those who use our services.
You can support #MMHAW26 by:
- Taking time to learn more about maternal mental health and perinatal services
- Sharing key messages and resources with colleagues and service users
- Using everyday interactions to listen, reassure and signpost when needed
- And sharing our messages on social media using the hashtag #MMHAW26.

Together, we can help ensure no mother feels alone and that mental health support is part of every family’s journey.
