Our addictions services at Brook Place are rightly proud to receive national recognition for being one of the first addiction services in the country to achieve Hepatitis C elimination within their current, eligible caseload by way of proactive identification, health education, rigorous testing and treatment provision.
Neil Meadows, specialist team manager, said: “Our Hep C champion, Hayley Curran’s passion, drive and determination are what’s got the team here … she’s put a lot of hard work into it.”
Hepatitis C is a virus that can infect the liver. If left untreated, it can sometimes cause serious and potentially life threatening damage. Many people have the infection without realising it and the only way to know for certain is to get tested. In the UK, most Hepatitis C infections happen in people who inject drugs or have injected them in the past.
This highly specialist team has so much more to offer than being a substitute prescriber – which is what many people think they do. They provide a recovery focused service to people living in Liverpool who have problems using opiates. They provide clinics for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Spirometry testing, Hep C testing, sexual health and wound care.
