Dr Nieves Mercadillo (pictured centre) retires in early October and has worked as a General Adult Consultant, with special interest in Inpatient Care. Since joining the Warrington Community Trust more than 20 years ago, Neives has had the privilege of engaging with highly committed staff and open-minded junior doctors; together, they have designed several quality improvement projects, including presenting at an International Congresses and received national recognition for their work. Nieves has also supported the Royal College of Psychiatry, Northwest Division as the Regional Advisor.
Dr Raj Madgula and Dr Nanda Dayalan tried to summarise their more than a decade long relationship with Nieves, who holds the distinction for being the longest serving inpatient consultant. “When we became lead consultants, Nieves was our line manager. We remember having robust discussions about how best to meet challenges such as improving quality of care and clinical pathways. She was always available, happy to freely discuss issues and a fantastic colleague. Nieves wears her heart on sleeve, speaks her mind and a wicked sense of humour that catches you off guard sometimes!
We wish Neives well as she moves ahead with her next chapter in life, we wish you a well deserved retirement and incredible journey ahead you leave us and your patients poor with your absence, but rich with the pleasant memories.
