Last month, the Sefton and Kirkby Early Interventions Team (EIT) organised their first recovery stories event at Kirkdale Community Fire Station.

Up until this year, they have co-hosted alongside Liverpool EIT but recovery just got too big for a joint event so they hosted their own with the blessing of our Liverpool colleagues.

Recovery stories celebrates recovery as a purposeful journey of meaning and growth after what can be a very traumatic experience of psychosis. The people present witnessed the heartfelt and inspiring first person accounts of recovery of six service users and one relative. They shared with the audience their story of resilience, perseverance, and optimism proving that recovery is not just possible but achievable! The team said it is an absolute privilege to be part of such an event and it couldn’t happen without people courageously sharing their stories and instilling a message of hope and recovery. They are most grateful!

They give many thanks and appreciation for the honourable presence of Professor Richard Bentall from the University of Sheffield who spoke to the audience about the concept of recovery in psychosis and mental health.

A massive thanks and shout out to the crew at Kirkdale Fire Station for letting the team use their amazing station, for going above and beyond to support us and nothing being too much trouble! The staff are an absolute credit to the service!

Last but not least, a huge thanks to Sefton and Kirkby EIT Psychology team – Clare Verdin, Cathie Forshaw, Paulo De Sousa and Sarah Duffy for all your hard work in pulling together an incredible event.
