Service users on our low secure LD ward now know all about the work of pop artist Romero Britto. The colourful designs of the lively Brazilian artist really inspired the women on Hodder Ward at Aspen Wood. Over the last few weeks, they have been busy creating their own cheerful collection of pictures in his style, with their own unique touches.

Working with their staff, including Occupational Therapy Apprentice Claire Burgess, eight service users created bright patterns and designs featuring hearts, flowers and animals in the style of the 62 year old Brazilian. Special art sessions gave the women chance to learn about him and colour their own pictures.

Ward manager Phil Searle says: “These pictures certainly brighten up our day and are part of a regular programme of therapeutic activity that OTs and staff provide for our women and which I know they all enjoy. Well done ladies!”

The plan is to show selections of the artwork on the main display screen in reception so all visitors to Aspen Wood can enjoy the images.
