FREE Yorkshire Three Peaks places for Mersey Care staff

We still have a number of FREE places up for grabs for our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge taking place on 5 September.

It’s such an incredible challenge, taking you on a 24.5 mile circular route through the stunning Yorkshire Dales and ascending the ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks’ of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside (Yorkshire’s highest peak at 736 meters), and Ingleborough. The historic route has been attracting challengers for over a century, with 250,000 people typically taking part each year.

It’s no surprise that it’s been our most popular fundraiser. Many Mersey Care staff have taken part over the past few years, citing it as an enriching experience where they’ve achieved something special for themselves, done something amazing to support others and met new people from across the Trust.

Clare McIntyre, part of the Granby Health Visiting Team took on the challenge as a team of five, said:

“I met people from other teams that I would never meet usually, which has been amazing," she said.

“I have never done anything like this before. I wanted to do this to have fun, get fitter and support funding for community and mental health services, and also to promote the health visiting service.”

The challenge is also popular because you have the support of a dedicated team before and during the event. Ahead of the event, Overlimits leader Phil Lee hosts optional practice walks as well as sends you everything you need to know for your challenge.

The challenge begins with a cup of tea and safety briefing and then Phil leads the way around the route which takes around 12 hours (with stops at check points) to complete.

Talking Therapies Team Lead, Kayleigh Griffin who previously took part shared:

"The event was really well organised and the staff working on the event were really friendly and knowledgeable. One of our highlights was finishing in 11 hours, which was much quicker than we expected, whilst another highlight was having a laugh all day, motivating each other to carry on.”

Join our 2026 cohort!

We currently have six Mersey Care staff signed up for the event on 5 September – but we’d love to have more. We’re offering FREE places (with a minimum sponsorship request of £250) as it’s a particularly special year as Mersey Care turns 25. We would love to have a full team of 25 – flying the flag for Mersey Care and Mersey Cares, our dedicated Trust charity!

Our big birthday goal: raising £25,000

We’ve also set an objective this year to raise at least £25,000 through Mersey Cares fundraising events – a goal that we believe is truly achievable if we come together through events such as this one.

Whether you’d like to join the others as an individual challenger or bring your team on board, we would love to hear from you. Every penny raised helps to support the ‘extras’ that fall outside of NHS funding but can make a huge difference to service users, patients and staff.
