Dr Jennifer Kilcoyne tells us: “It was a good night at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards. Congratulations to our MH Triage and Response car team who won the Seni Lewis Award for their outstanding contribution to improvements in co-operation between the police and health services.
The HOPE(S) Model was highly commended by the HSJ judges in the category of LD Initiative of the Year.”
Jennifer leads this programme, which works to reduce the use of segregation in secure settings. It was created by Mersey Care and commissioned nationally by NHS.
Jennifer adds: “It was lovely to have one of our service users attend and see their joy at getting a trophy. For them it was a big change after their time in segregation and a great example of the value of the programme.”
Some colleagues may have heard the service user tell their story at our recent national conference, being helped by Mersey Care trained practitioners to move out of a very long time in segregation into a setting which has enabled them to really bloom.
Jennifer is the National Director for HOPE(S) and the programme is also in the running for Nursing Times awards later this year.
