The team at Rowan View’s Delamere Ward are celebrating after being rated ‘Good Plus’ in the majority of areas during their most recent Quality Review Visit (QRV) — a clear recognition of their commitment to safe, effective, and person-centred care.

Delamere is a 10-bed specialist ward providing care for patients with a learning disability and/or autism. It supports patients under the Mental Health Act, including those under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice.

The ward has led the way at Rowan View in quality improvement, having already completed its first project in partnership with Mersey Care’s Centre for Perfect Care. The project successfully reduced incidents around mealtimes by using a positive behavioural support approach and more structured protected mealtime routines.

Delamere is also one of four Mersey Care wards involved in the national NHS Culture of Care programme, led by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. This programme focuses on improving the culture of inpatient mental health and learning disability services — making them more therapeutic for patients and more fulfilling for staff.

The Secure Care Division’s senior leadership team were delighted to hear that a recent visit from the Royal College’s ‘Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services’ was incredibly positive, and that early feedback highlighted strong therapeutic relationships between staff and patients and a high level of patient involvement in care planning.

Sarah Pilling, Head of Operations (MSU), said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team at Delamere Ward. Their commitment to creating a safe, positive environment for the women we support is what makes them stand out. This rating is a clear recognition of the care, compassion, and professionalism they bring to their work every day.”
