Meet Kerry Roberts, Antimicrobial Steward, Vaccination and IV Therapy Lead Pharmacist

What inspired you to follow your current career path?

Studying Buddhism at A-level sparked a desire to pursue a career where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. I also had a strong interest in chemistry and biology, which made pharmacy a natural fit - combining my academic strengths with my motivation to help others.

I went on to complete a Master’s degree in pharmacy at the University of Manchester, gaining valuable experience through hospital placements during university holidays. After graduating, I built a solid foundation in physical health by working across two acute NHS Trusts and completing my clinical diploma.

Keen to specialise rather than remain a generalist, I developed a broad set of transferable skills through roles in haematology, oncology, and mental health. In my current position, I focus on antimicrobials, vaccinations, and IV therapies - areas that offer both complexity and impact. I’m enjoying the challenge and have actively built strong professional networks at both regional and national levels, which continue to enrich my practice and broaden my perspective.

Over time, I’ve found myself consistently drawn to improving processes and governance to better support staff and enhance patient care. With a mindset open to learning and growth, pharmacy has offered me a varied and rewarding career path, alongside the privilege of working with inspiring colleagues.
