Emergency Pharmacy Advice Service
Key Information & Frequently Asked Questions
Key Information
The Emergency Pharmacy Advice Service is provided by Trust pharmacists from home. Please note this is in addition to their normal day time roles, meaning the pharmacist has likely worked a full day, then provides the emergency advisory service as soon as the pharmacy is closed until the pharmacy is open the next day, when they are also likely to be working a full day. Staff should therefore only utilise this service in an emergency when other steps to resolve the issue have been considered and exhausted.
The information over the following pages outlines common calls to the service and provides steps that should be taken by staff before contacting the pharmacist.
The Emergency Pharmacy Advice Service is ‘advisory only’ meaning the pharmacist cannot be called in to make a supply of medicines.
The service covers both clinical advice and advice on locating required medication.
The Emergency Pharmacy Advice Service is available via Switchboard whenever the Trust pharmacies are closed.
The Emergency Pharmacy Advice Service should not used for supply related calls when the pharmacies are open
