Purpose: The purpose of Arrive is to equip new managers with the essential knowledge to succeed as a manager in Mersey Care. The purpose of the Essential Recruitment session is to provide managers with a basic understanding of the recruitment process, signposting to further training.
Target audience: All new managers at any level, whether they are new to Mersey Care or new to the role of management.
Duration: 2 hours
The training session includes the following:
- How to add a vacancy authorisation request to Trac and have a better understanding of the authorisation process
- How to navigate the Trust recruitment system – Trac (the basics)
- The role and responsibilities of the recruiting manager
- The recruitment timeline and how recruiting managers can help minimise/avoid delays in the recruitment process
Delegates will be signposted to recruitment process training and values based interview training.

Purpose: To provide staff with advice, guidance and techniques they can use when preparing for an interview. This includes staff who may need to have an interview as a result of organisational change.
Target audience: Internal staff attending interviews.

The guidance document and training session will include the following:
- How to prepare for an interview
- Different interview question styles
- Techniques to help structure answers to interview questions
- An overview of different selection methods that may be used (i.e. presentation, written assessment)
Purpose: To equip recruiting managers with essential knowledge and skills that will help them navigate the recruitment process effectively. This training covers the entire recruitment process from vacancy authorisation request to onboarding including practical tips and demonstrations of the recruitment system (Trac).
Target audience: Recruiting managers and staff who support recruiting managers with the recruitment process.
Recruitment process training is delivered in 90 minute bite-sized sessions as below so you can access the sessions that are relevant to you.
Session 1: Pre-authorisation / Authorisation / Advertising
This session will cover:
- How to add a vacancy authorisation request to Trac
- How to write an effective advert to increase attraction
- Using social media to promote jobs
- How to navigate the Trust recruitment system – Trac
Session 2: Shortlisting / Interview
This session will cover:
- How to shortlist using Trac and how to score effectively
- Preparing for interviews
- Be familiar with values based interviews
Session 3: Offer / Pre-employment Checks / Onboarding
This session will cover:
- The recruitment timeline and how recruiting managers can help minimise/avoid delays in the recruitment process
- The NHS Employment Check Standards / Safer Recruitment
- The role and responsibilities of the recruiting manager
- Onboarding
Session 4: Immigration / Right to Work
This session will cover:
- Immigration – the basics
- Know what is expected of you in your role around immigration

Purpose: To equip interview panels with skills and techniques to ensure that we recruit the right people with the right skills, values, behaviours and attitudes.
Target audience: All staff involved in interviewing.
Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm
The training session includes the following:
- The importance of selecting for values, behaviours and attitudes
- The interview process (including questions and assessment forms)
- Techniques to use during the interview to understand candidates values, behaviours and attitudes
- Using values based interviewing to increase safeguarding
- Using Trust values to select the right candidate
- Unconscious bias and how this impacts recruitment decisions
- Challenging own and others bias to make better, fairer decisions

Purpose: To equip services users, carers and volunteers involved in interview panels with knowledge, skills and techniques that will enable them to make a valuable, important contribution to selection decisions.
Target audience: Service users, carers and volunteers involved in interviewing.

- Why values, behaviours and attitudes are so important
- Using Trust values to select the right candidate
- The interview
- The role of the interview panel (including the importance of having a panel member who has direct or indirect experience of our services)
