A plea for help by a residents’ group close to vacant Mossley Hill Hospital was responded to promptly by Mersey Care, earning goodwill and a thank you donation to a national mental health charity.

Some 55 properties in Pennyford Drive, directly opposite the hospital, were having their communal car park refurbished last week and urgently needed somewhere to move all their vehicles from the residential site for two days. Chair of their management board Martin Hill approached the Trust to ask if it would be possible to temporarily park at the disused hospital, subject to conditions.

The request came to the communications team and it was Associate Director of Estates and Facilities, Michele McGee who agreed the request, while Head of Strategic Estates, Jo Minogue Sharp met the residents on site to provide assistance.

Mr Hill has now sent us a copy of a letter to MIND with a donation to the charity saying: “The management of the hospital were very helpful to our residents and we all felt that it would be appropriate to send a small donation to a related charity as a token of our appreciation of all those who work in the mental health field.”

Jo Minogue Sharp commented: “We are pleased to have been able to help the local community and continue building relationships ahead of our forthcoming demolition of the site scheduled to start later this summer, with construction of a new hospital due to begin next year.”
