We’re incredibly proud to share that Jonathan Richardson, Student Nursing Associate in Secure Services, has been shortlisted for Student Nursing Associate of the Year at the 2026 Student Nursing Times Awards.
Jonathan is a final-year student who will complete his training later this year and has already made a strong impact through his calm, patient-centred approach and recovery-focused approach. Highly regarded by his colleagues, he brings maturity, compassion and sound clinical judgement to a complex environment,
Before joining Mersey Care, Jonathan worked in employment support and community care supporting ex-offenders, experience that shaped his commitment to helping people rebuild their lives.
“I’ve always wanted to help people,” he said. “I’ve been given second chances in life myself, and I want to pay that forward.”
Angela Charles, Practice Education Facilitator, praised his attitude:
“Jonathan’s positivity and willingness to learn have set him apart from the start. He’s flourished in a challenging environment, recognising that building therapeutic relationships in a secure setting takes patience, consistency, and emotional intelligence. Jonathan is an exceptional student.”
After graduating, Jonathan hopes to progress to the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RDNA) with a focus on mental health and secure care.
The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrate excellence in student nursing and nurse education. Now in their 15th year, the awards will take place on Friday 24 April 2026.
Huge congratulations to Jonathan, and the very best of luck on the night!
