The Charlie Waller trust is a mental health charity who provide training with a focus to equip parents, carers teachers and communities with the latest evidence based strategies.
NHS England is pleased to share that there is another opportunity to apply for Parent Carer Peer Support Workers (PC PSWs) training.
Applications are now open for a second intake that will start in the third week of March 2026.
This fully funded course is open to any parents and carers with lived experience, working in partnership with a supporting service.
PCPSWs draw on their own lived experience of supporting children and young people with mental health difficulties to help others. Embedded within local communities, they offer culturally sensitive and compassionate support to families. Their role spans across all settings, Mental Health Support Teams, community, inpatient, family hubs, voluntary sector and across the Children and Young People Mental Health Thrive model.
Training PCPSWs is a vital step in enabling the shift to community based care as outlined in the 10 Year Health Plan, equipping them to work in an integrated, evidence informed, and safe way that improves outcomes for families.
The training is co-produced and co-delivered by The Charlie Waller Trust, University of Reading, and Northumbria University. Please see information from The Charlie Waller Trust about how parents and carers with lived experience can apply in partnership with a supporting service.
The deadline for completed applications is Friday 30 January 2026 at 6pm. The Charlie Waller Trust will also be running a series of online application drop-in sessions in January for anyone interested in applying or who may have questions.
