A 58-year-old dad from Liverpool with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) has successfully completed the city’s Santa Dash, raising money for charity.
Having run the Liverpool Santa Dash for 14 years, Denis Dunne was devastated at the thought of missing his 15th anniversary. Thanks to support from Mersey Care and Sunrise Medical, Denis was able to continue his tradition and cross the finish line once again – this time in a racing wheelchair.
During a fitting with our Liverpool Wheelchair Service, Denis shared with Jocelyn Stamper, Occupational Therapist, his long‑standing tradition of running the Santa Dash and the devastation he felt that his diagnosis meant he would miss out for the first time in 15 years. Moved by his story, Jocelyn reached out to Sunrise Medical to see if a suitable chair could be provided to help Denis continue his tradition.
Sunrise Medical responded by supplying an Argon 2 wheelchair fitted with a FreeWheel attachment, enabling Denis to take part in the Santa Dash more comfortably and safely than would have been possible in a standard chair.
“I’m incredibly grateful to Mersey Care and Sunrise Medical who have supported me to take part in the Liverpool Santa Dash. I recently went to York on a day out and my wheelchair really struggled on the cobbled streets so I knew I wouldn’t be able to take on the Santa Dash this year. But the Argon 2 changed all that.” Said Dennis.
