Course information

Gives a clear explanation and demonstrate an understanding of the implications of undertaking ECG’s and Manual Physical Observations.

Apply the relevant knowledge base and perform ECG’s and Manual Physical Observations correctly, safely and efficiently and in line with Trust Policy. Be able to describe the relevant anatomy and physiology of the arm and cardiac conduction system Demonstrate the skills required when obtaining ECG’s and Manual Physical Observations.

Demonstrate appropriate and effective communication skills. Will be aware of and strictly comply with all policies and procedures that are relevant to the Physical Health of the Patient.

Will take responsibility for ECG and Manual Physical Observations practice by ensuring they are competent to practice and identify any training updates within their PDP.

Target audience

All staff who complete ECGs.

 Understand the importance of correctly placing electrodes for an electrocardiogram 

  • Have an increased understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology 
  • Have an awareness of troubleshooting issues
  • Discuss the importance of assessment
  • Explain the theory behind base line observations and how to perform them
  • List common the physical health issues that may present themselves
  • Identify the actions to undertake following assessment
