People across Mersey Care work hard to provide the best possible care to those using our services. With so many challenges for staff to navigate to provide high quality care, digital solutions, for example, Management and Supervision Tool and Ward Guardian, have been used to help support in delivering the most effective and safe care possible. A national review recently took place, Rapid review into data on mental health inpatient settings due to concerns that the right data and information to identify risks to patient safety wasn’t available and was undermining efforts to improve care and keep patients safe. Due to our level of experience with digital solutions, Mersey Care’s been asked by the Department of Health and Social Care to develop a dashboard to support the early identification of patient safety indicators on a mental health ward.

The project will develop a proof of concept dashboard for use in mental health wards which will address some of the recommendations made in the national review. The project brings together a range of data sets from across the Trust, presented in an intuitive, intelligent dashboard to support clinical decision making. It will include an algorithm with sophisticated analytic driven prompts to support proactive clinical action, and will be viewable from ward to Board.

The tool will be developed collaboratively with Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to allow the development of an integrated care board (ICB) wide aggregate view of the dashboard. Such a view will enable the ICB to identify themes and opportunities to support developments across the health and social care system. The proof of concept dashboard will be complete by Spring 2024.
