The Mental Capacity Act Team have launched a short, animation designed to enhance staff confidence and competence in carrying out Mental Capacity Act (MCA) assessments.

The animation provides a clear, practical guide to applying the MCA in everyday clinical practice. It highlights the MCA as empowering legislation, enabling individuals to make their own decisions wherever possible and ensuring meaningful involvement when they cannot.

Promoting a person centred, rights based approach, the video supports staff to complete assessments that are legally sound, ethically appropriate, and professionally defensible. It also encourages balanced, compassionate decision-making when working with individuals who may lack capacity.

This resource is relevant for all clinical staff, as capacity and consent are integral to safe, respectful care. It reflects the Trust’s continued commitment to improving the quality, consistency, and legal adherence of MCA assessments across services.
