Qualification: Level 6, equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree.

Course duration: 3 years

Where will I study?

Year 1 - 3 days per week at Salford University
Year 2 - 2 days per week at Salford University
Year 3 - 2 days per week at Salford University

Modules

Modules include: Identify bones, major joints and muscles of the lower limb and their function, managing foot problems, wound management, anatomy and physiology, introduction to gait, musculoskeletal conditions, applied clinical medicine, prescription only medicine, musculoskeletal conditions 2, contexts of clinical practice, diagnosis management, patient management in practice.

Each module will be assessed by coursework and/or end of module examination. End Point Assessment (EPA) will include the submission of a portfolio of evidence, presentation of practice with Q&A session and a scenario based judgement test.

 

Entry requirements

This course is aimed at support workers or anyone looking to pursue a career in Podiatry. Requirements also include

  • Minimum of 2 GCSE's at grade 4/c including English & maths and ideally a science or equivalent.
  • Level 3 qualification (A level or equivalent vocational qualification such as BTEC)
  • Access course/diploma/prior learning ideally science (120 UCAS points)

 

Why study this course?

You will work with children with gait abnormalities, people with high-risk conditions such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis and people who need specialist footwear to accommodate foot deformities. You will also provide gait analysis and treatment for athletes with biomechanical problems or sports injuries.

After graduating, you will be equipped to work in the NHS or to run your own private practice.
