The Safeguarding Duty Hub offers the provision of specialist safeguarding and children and adult practitioners and it is available from 9am to 5pm Monday-Friday through a single point of access Trust wide.

The NSPCC are currently accepting referrals for their next DART Group, due to start in September. Domestic Abuse Recovery Together, (DART), helps children and mothers after domestic abuse by supporting them to talk to each other about domestic abuse, learn to communicate and rebuild their relationship. https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/services-children-families/dart
Standard Request for Service Form
The service, which has been recognised by the Home Office, also provides children and mothers with an opportunity to meet others who have lived through similar experiences.
Over ten weeks, mothers and children aged 7 to 14 meet for a weekly two-hour group session.

Free Public Sector Trauma Informed Training
The Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership are offering a free Trauma Informed Training package for all public sector and third sector professionals, particularly for those who work to safeguard and support vulnerable adults and young people.
Delivered by industry experts, the package focuses on supporting organisations and their employees to understand how psychological trauma can impact individuals and highlights the implications it can have for their services.
The package consists of four two-hour sessions on consecutive weeks focused on helping your employees to better understand the Neuroscience of how we learn and develop, covering subjects such as understanding vulnerability and the impact of trauma, recognising feelings and building trust and how to respond to a crisis, all of which are designed to empower your staff to better meet the needs of the communities you serve. https://www.merseysidevrp.com/whats-happening/events/?view_id=800142937&em_search=&scope=future

To improve the communication between Children & Young People and Professionals across Cheshire & Merseyside, a campaign is currently in development working with CYP and those working directly with them. To support the development of this campaign we are hoping to reach as many children and young people as possible to complete the following expression of interest to attend sessions with colleagues at Kaleidoscope. CYP is hosting three interactive and engaging workshops at the office of Kaleidoscope, a graphic design and digital company based in Liverpool. These sessions will focus on developing a brand, logo, and communications plan for a new project that encourages healthcare professionals to put young people first during appointments. The Safeguarding Duty Hub is available for all staff across the Trust to access safeguarding advice and support in practice. The Safeguarding Duty Hub offers the provision of specialist safeguarding and children and adult practitioners and it is available from 9am to 5pm Monday-Friday through a single point of access Trust wide.
To discuss any safeguarding matters please contact a central hub of specialist safeguarding practitioners.

Quarterly Safeguarding Roundups
Each quarter the Divisional Safeguarding Leads will host online conversations to share information relating to the Safeguarding Activity, Trends and Themes arising in your own area of practice.
These sessions provide the opportunity to:
- Share key insights into the type of safeguarding concerns most prevalent within the Trust divisions.
- Using data to highlight the divisional Safeguarding Activity and Positive Outcomes for Service Users and Staff
- Divisional updates from local and national safeguarding reviews and the lessons that are specific to supporting practice in your division.
All sessions facilitate reflection through conversation and will be recorded on MySupervision to evidence your involvement in reflective safeguarding learning.

Halton Family Fund - Applications open from 4 June 2024
Halton Family Hubs support children and young people from birth until they reach the age of 19 (or up to 25 for young people with special educational needs and disabilities). Since February 2024, work has been done with parents to find out what supports their wellbeing during pregnancy and through the perinatal period and now we want to fund projects and ideas that create more of the good stuff!
Funding is for informal groups of parents, community organisations, charities and social enterprises to deliver local projects which will benefit the wellbeing of expectant parents, new parents and their families across Halton.

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation has launched a new website designed for 13 to 18-year-olds concerned about sexual thoughts or behaviour.
The Shore website provides confidential help, support and information for children who:
have questions about healthy sexual relationships
• want to change their own behaviour
• are looking for reliable information to help them respond to someone else’s behaviour.

Pan Cheshire Child Death Overview Panel
Following a very sad, tragic and preventable incident last weekend when children had got into difficulty in open water: Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service issued this message to remind the public that:
“The water may look calm on the surface, but there can be strong undercurrents that could pull even a strong swimmer under the water.
“And even when the weather feels very hot, the water may feel warm on the surface, but just a few feet below the surface it can be icy cold – affecting the stamina and strength of even strong swimmers.
“If you are with someone who gets into difficulty, call emergency services for help. If you can, use an object to try and reach for them, but don’t put yourself in danger by entering the water.”
Please share the Summer Water Safety Poster with your teams and print and display in public areas.

Please see the notice below from Alder Hey Children's Hospital regarding Shein Tattoo Kits
An issue has been raised via safeguarding supervision today with CAMHS.
A practitioner has shared that a young person aged 13 managed to purchase a tattoo kit from Shein for £5 and now has a permanent tattoo on her wrist. Parents have sought medical attention and to check that it hadn’t become infected etc.
The CAMHS practitioner has asked the child’s mother to report this to Shein.
There are a number of kits on sale via the Shein website. Further googling shows cheap tattoo kits are available from the likes of Ali Express also.
Alder Hey Safeguarding Duty Team are aware and will share with relevant teams such as emergency departement colleagues to watch out if they see children and young people coming through the emergency department with tattoo related injuries/wounds/infections.
Please share this message with education, social care colleagues, safeguading partnerships and NHS England.

Raises Voices of Victims and Survivors of Domestic Abuse
The Domestic Abuse Commissioner is delighted to launch VOICES today, her virtual platform for victims and survivors to influence change to improve the lives of others subjected to domestic abuse.
From today, victims and survivors, as well as friends and family bereaved by domestic abuse, can sign up to receive the VOICES email newsletter, which will include opportunities for victims and survivors to share their experiences, as well as providing relevant updates on the work of the domestic abuse sector, government and academics.
The Commissioner is also inviting victims and survivors to share their views in a survey on their experiences with the police.
Please share this announcement with your networks using this graphic. If you work directly with people subject to domestic abuse, there is an A4 flyer aimed at victims and survivors that you can print off and put up in your building, or share digitally with clients.

Changes to Sefton front door and referrals for Safeguarding Children/ Early Help
From the 1st May 2024, changes will take place in the way professionals make referrals to Sefton Children’s Social Care (CSC) in respect of safeguarding and early help.
Virtual briefing sessions on the new model have been held and further 2 face to face sessions are scheduled for 16th April (10-12am or 1-3pm) at Formby PDC. The session aims to brief professionals on the changes to increase understanding and confidence prior to the launch on May 1st, and include opportunity for Q&A session. Book Here

New MARAC Referral Form
Please find attached the new merged referral from for non-police referrals. Previously 3 documents were used (Referral form, Merit and Professional Judgement form) and this has sometimes caused confusion when submitting a referral. These 3 documents have now been marged and added instructions prior to each section which hopefully make the process easier to follow.
Please delete any old copies of the referral forms and going forward please use this new merged form.

Stoned Again Cannabis Training
YPDAAT have commissioned Professor Liam Watson to deliver his popular "Stoned Again "cannabis training on Thursday 22 March 2024 9am to 1:15pm via Zoom.
The course content will:
· Explore the recent history, production and popularity of cannabis.
· Examine the mechanisms of action of THC/CBD on the brain.
· Clarify the links between the use of cannabis and the development of mental health problems for some users.
· Explore the most important harm reduction advice relating to various forms of cannabis use.
· Help delegates develop a clear understanding of how to most effectively assist those clients who wish to stop using cannabis.

Intra - Familial CSA for Multi-Agency Staff Training
Overview: The Cheshire and Merseyside Social Work Teaching Partnership has worked with the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse to offer this training programme to our partnership. This 1-day training provides an overview of the key issues for professionals who work in collaboration with other agencies, to help them identify and respond to cases of intra-familial child sexual abuse. What you can expect to learn:
A better understanding of:
- the scale and nature of child sexual abuse
- how the impact of child sexual abuse presents in children and young people.
- how children communicate their experiences of sexual abuse and the professional role in helping them do this
- how and why sexual abuse happens in families.

Savera UK is a leading charity working to end ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA) and other harmful practices, including forced marriage, female genital mutilation, hymenoplasty, virginity testing and conversion therapy.
‘Savera’ means ‘new beginning’ in Hindi, which is symbolic of what we provide for survivors and those at risk of HBA and harmful practices, regardless of age, culture, sexuality, gender, or ethnicity.
The session aims to improve understanding of HBA and different harmful practices and how to provide the best support to those at risk of or experiencing HBA and harmful practices.

The session will include:
• Introduction to HBA and different harmful practices (including FGM, forced marriage, virginity testing and more)
• Risk factors/Warning Signs of HBA and other harmful practices

Key things to consider when completing a Genogram using genograms in your work, e.g. supervision, referrals, assessments.
Genograms as a direct work tool to map family scripts/patterns etc versus Genogram’s to show who is in a family (eg for the purpose of court assessments)
The training will include a demonstration of completing a live Genogram, and questioning styles that can support this

The Home Office lunched consultation in regard of the definition of child to parent abuse. The link can be found here.
The Home Office particularly interested in hearing from those with lived experience of child to parent abuse or working in frontline services. The findings from this consultation will be used to develop the definition of child to parent abuse directly, and also to inform the next phase of work around updating the guidance for frontline professionals

New Training Programme - Triple P Fear - Less
FREE new programme for parents.
‘Fear- Less is a programme for parents with children aged 6 - 14 years who are struggling with anxiety which may be causing them to miss school or social events. The programme helps parents to understand their child's anxiety, recognise when their child is anxious, and develop skills and techniques to help them cope with their anxiety. The programme is a 7 week programme, being delivered from Newton Children Centre, Wednesday mornings 9.30am to 11.30am.

Session 3: Promoting emotional resilience in children
Session 4: Modelling and the way children think

Consultation on the definition of child to parent abuse
The Home Office lunched consultation in regard of the definition of child to parent abuse. The link can be found here.
The Home Office particularly interested in hearing from those with lived experience of child to parent abuse or working in frontline services. The findings from this consultation will be used to develop the definition of child to parent abuse directly, and also to inform the next phase of work around updating the guidance for frontline professionals
The consultation will run for ten weeks, closing on 7 February 2024. If you have any questions in regard to the consultation, you can contact the team at: CPAConsultation

Please find attached the new merged referral from for non-police referrals. Previously 3 documents were used (Referral form, Merit and Professional Judgement form) and this has sometimes caused confusion when submitting a referral. These 3 documents have now been marged and added instructions prior to each section which hopefully make the process easier to follow.
Please delete any old copies of the referral forms and going forward please use this new merged form.

Child/Adult Child to Parent Domestic Abuse Service
The service will provide 1-2-1 support to children and young people between the ages of 6-17 if deemed safe and appropriate as well as working closely with parents to provide a holistic approach. The service will also provide a group Programme in the coming months for parents and young people. The service also supports parents of Adult Children who are aged 18 years and over who are abusive. The service will provide direct support to parents who are facing abuse, the referral form attached should also be used for Adult Child to Parent Abuse.
The service goes live from the 8 January 2024 with referrals being accepted from this date. Once the referral has been completed, please send it to cpa
