A new prescription tracking system (PTS5) is currently being rolled out Trust wide.
The system uses barcode technology to provide real time insights, enabling staff to track prescriptions rather than contacting the relevant department for updates.
The prescription tracker will go live from the 30 June across wards and community locations, after being succesfully implemented at Maghull Medicines Management building on 16 June, and at Hollins Park dispensary on the 23 June.
Some of the benefits the prescription tracker offers:
- Easier to access information and prioritise - Dispensary staff can access key information at a glance, including how many prescriptions are currently in the dispensary and what work needs to be prioritised
- Check the status of prescriptions - The tracker can be used to follow the progress of outpatient prescriptions, short term leave, and discharge prescriptions, enabling staff to keep track and know when a prescription has been received
- Reduce duplication and better efficiency - The system helps in reducing duplication of work and ensures that ward staff and community staff have more time to carry out clinical activities, rather than time spent on the phone to the Medicines Management team
- Additional features - As part of phase 2 of the rollout, additional features include delivery app tracking, which will replace paper delivery sheets, tracking of stock orders, tracking of inpatient prescriptions and increased communication around out of stock medications.
