Regional Mother and Baby Unit now open
Seren Lodge is open!
The specialist Mother and Baby mental health unit will now support pregnant and postnatal women experiencing severe mental ill-health from across
Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Wales. Designed with input from women with lived experience, the unit provides care closer to home in a therapeutic environment.
Opened by Experts by Experience and the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Sherin Akhtar the launch was marked by music from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, in partnership with NHS Music and Health, and Singing Mamas, a local group supporting postnatal wellbeing through singing.
Prof Bev Sapre, Cheshire and Mersey Specialist Perinatal Service Joint Clinical Lead, said: “It is estimated that one in four women experience mental health problems in pregnancy and during the 24 months after giving birth. Whilst only a small number of women will need admission to a specialist unit like Seren Lodge, I’m delighted that we’ll be able to offer this care closer to home, in addition to the thousands of families we see in the community every year.”
