Members of the 7F (1st City of Liverpool) Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets met with Children in Care nurses at Norris Green to deliver chocolate eggs, treats and gifts collected in support of Mersey Cares’ Easter Egg Appeal.
The cadets wanted to support the appeal to provide a moment of kindness to children who may be facing challenging circumstances and called on family, friends and other connections to help them collect as many eggs as possible.
Speaking about the fundraiser, Jess Roden, who accompanied Charlotte, Sam, Alfie and Oliver (pictured) to drop off the eggs said:
“The cadets wanted to do something kind for children in care across the Liverpool area. Being young people themselves, they felt it was really important that every child gets to enjoy something special, so they set out to help make sure each child received an Easter egg.
“The cadets were warmly welcomed by the Liverpool Children in Care team and got the chance to ask questions and learn more about how their donations will make a difference,” said Jess. “They also said they’re looking forward to organising more donations around Christmas time to support the Secret Santa Appeal."
Kirsten Kerr, Team Manager for the Children in Care Specialist Nursing team said of the donations and personal visit:
“It was absolutely lovely meeting everyone and the number of eggs and gifts we received was fantastic! We really appreciate everything so much and our young people will be so made up with an Easter egg, as it could be the only one they receive.”
Our ongoing appeal for Children in Care
If you didn't have the chance to donate an egg but would like to further support children in care, our ongoing Give a Gift to a Child in Care appeal raises funds to provide essential wellbeing items to children arriving in care, such as toothbrushes, sanitary products, and toiletries, along with comforting gifts like dressing gowns and slippers in personalised welcome packages. The appeal also allows us to continue supporting young people as they approach adulthood.
Thank you so much for your kindness - we couldn't do what we do without your support.
