World Mental Health Day Events in Halton

We were joined by more than 120 pupils and staff from 35 schools in Halton this week to celebrate with fun and games. The purpose of the event was for children and young people to learn new skills, connect with others, and learn effective coping techniques and resources to look after their mental health and wellbeing.

We had activities such as air dry clay emotion designing, cake decorating, pick pad fidget creating, sports, bracelet making, a sensory/quiet room, games area, and self care Bingo inclusive for everyone. We shared examples of self soothe boxes, positive affirmations and other wellbeing resources. All activities and resources were designed to be SEND friendly and accessible for all such as a sensory room, visual timetables and instructions.activities collage 3.png

All the activities were linked to 5 ways to wellbeing and the resources will be provided to schools so they can replicate them to all their pupils. The self care bingo went down a storm (but was also very tense and exciting for staff and children). There were prizes of goody bags, self care items, journals, and a Galaxy Tablet.

The team is pictured with some healthy handmade fruit, with fun, therapeutic names such as ‘kind kiwi’, ‘magnificent mango’, ‘resilient raspberry’ and ‘wellbeing watermelon’ and each young person chose one to take home. Big thanks to Em’s mum for making a bumper crop of these goodies!

This year’s theme also incorporated staff wellbeing, and the Halton team crafted a large wall art piece which the children pinned their ideas and advice of support for their teachers to and displayed it in the shape of our MHST logo.

The ideas and advice of the pupils will be shared with all of the commissioned schools in Halton so that all school staff can benefit from the wellbeing ideas.

The event was also an opportunity to gather feedback on children’s experiences of MHST service and their views on how we can improve their access to mental health support, plus feedback on the trust participation group rebranding. We had some brilliant feedback which we are keen to implement.

These type of community events are essential in helping us shape and improve the support we offer, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of those we serve.

A huge thank you to all the staff and everyone who attended and contributed to making the day a success, and, particularly to Becky and Ashley for their immense hard work and creativity
