Emails containing sensitive information sent to and from health and social care organisations must be encrypted. NHS organisations must adhere to NHS England’s secure email standard (DCB1596) so that everyone can be sure that sensitive and confidential information is kept secure.
To protect you, emails that are deemed suspicious by our security system are immediately quarantined. This happens without notification to you as the recipient.
To enable the safe review of emails that have been quarantined, we will be introducing a new IT security feature from 25 November 2024.
This new feature will enable you to safely preview the messages you have received that have been quarantined and request for them to be released if you feel they are legitimate.
An example of the type of email you will receive if you have messages that need to be reviewed is pictured below.
If you feel that an email is genuine, select ‘Review message’.
From here, select … in the navigation menu and choose ‘Preview message’. This will enable you to safely review the contents of the email without risk.
If you feel the email is safe and secure, you can select ‘Request Release’.
You may be prompted a further time before receiving the confirmation message below. Select ‘Done’.
Your email will then be reviewed by NHS Informatics Merseyside’s IT Security Service, as a final check, before being made available within your inbox.
Emails that are deemed to be unsafe will not be released.
This new feature allows you to safely review and request the release of emails that may have been mistakenly quarantined for security reasons, ensuring our digital systems remains protected.
