The Digital Clinical Team within NHS Informatics Merseyside (IM) is led by Joanne Welsh, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) and Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). Joanne is supported by Claire Rowlands and Jane Nurney, Informatics Clinical Change Leads.
This team is responsible for ensuring that appropriate digital solutions and innovations are identified and safely implemented to improve the quality and safety of care for service users and patients. The team serves as an essential liaison between our digital colleagues within IM and clinicians.
Across Mersey Care, there are trained Clinical Safety Officers (CSOs) who perform this role in addition to their day-to-day responsibilities. CSOs are responsible for providing clinical safety review for the implementation of new digital solutions and upgrades to existing systems, ensuring they conform to relevant national standards. This team is led by Joanne Welsh and is also responsible for developing and supporting Mersey Care’s Clinical Risk Management Strategy.
