The results of the 2025 NHS Staff Survey have been published today, and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views.
Last year was particularly challenging for the NHS, and feedback from the national Staff Survey reflects the impact this has had on colleagues across the sector. We can see some of these themes in Mersey Care’s results; however, our data shows we compare well with other trusts in our peer group (mental health, learning disability and community). This gives us a clear picture of where we can build on our strengths, and where there is need for greater focus.
We are proud that teamwork continues to be a major strength at Mersey Care, and feedback about direct line managers remains consistently positive. Many colleagues feel trusted, supported and respected at work, with a strong sense of inclusion and belonging within their team. This is a real credit to our teams and leaders and reflects the emphasis we place on great leadership and teamwork across our Trust - foundations we know are essential to delivering great care.
There are however several areas that require further attention. This year our survey shows a decline in the number of staff who feel confident speaking up, which has previously been an area of continuous improvement for Mersey Care. While it is not unusual for this to be affected during periods of significant change, we know that speaking up is key to patient and staff safety. We will therefore seek to understand what is driving this and take action to support this as a priority.
The survey results also highlight learning, development and appraisal as areas for improvement. While most colleagues have had an appraisal, your feedback shows that what matters most is the quality of our PACE conversations and having access to development and support for longer term progression. We will review how we do this with you so that this feels more meaningful.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue to review Mersey Care’s Staff Survey feedback and understand how we compare with other NHS trusts nationally. As part of this work, we will also draw on feedback from other surveys about staff experience, wellbeing and culture. Together, these insights will shape our improvement plans and help us build on the strong foundations of our Restorative Just and Learning Culture.
From the end of this month, you will also be able to view division, service line and team results (where there are 10 or more responses) on YourInsights. We encourage you to review and discuss this feedback with colleagues, considering actions that will continue to make a positive difference for staff within your own team or service area.
In the meantime, we want to thank you, and to reiterate how proud we are of the compassion, professionalism and commitment you show every day - to patients, service users, their families and to one another. We will use this feedback to focus our efforts where they are needed most, and we will continue to work with you to make Mersey Care a better place to work and to receive care.
