The NHS Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) system stands at a critical point. For too long, frontline staff have been asked to deliver care that falls short of the standards they aspire to provide. This UEC Plan sets out a roadmap for rapid and sustained improvement – focusing on the changes that will make the biggest difference to our patients and staff.
The UEC Plan is backed by approximately £375 million of capital investment and introduces ambitious targets to significantly improve services this winter, focusing on reducing hospital stays, improving patient flow, and enhancing ambulance response times. Key initiatives include:
- Expanding same-day emergency care facilities
- Creating new urgent care centres across the country
- Implementing neighbourhood health approaches
- Enhancing digital capabilities through Connected Care Records
NHS leaders at all levels are committed to rebuilding public trust through measurable improvements that benefit both patients and staff. The plan emphasises greater transparency and accountability through published performance metrics.
The transformation aims to create an NHS where patients can once again trust they'll receive timely emergency care, and staff can take pride in delivering it. You can view the plan here.
