An important message from Trish Bennett, CEO and Sean Leahy, Chief People and Culture Officer (Interim):
The heightened tensions across communities and in the media persist, drawing attention to issues such as racism, immigration, national identity and continuing global conflicts.
We know members of our Mersey Care family will have been impacted, distressed and fearful following recent attacks and incidents of senseless violence. Current events may make people feel uneasy, anxious, excluded or unwelcome in the UK.
We want to make it clear that we do not, and will not, tolerate antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia and all other forms of discrimination or abuse from colleagues, patients, or visitors. We will take appropriate measures if such actions are evident, which may include involving the Police.
The care of all our community remains our priority and it’s important that everyone feels safe and supported.
Mersey Care remains committed to being an actively anti-racist organisation and continues to take meaningful steps to create a better place to work, and to receive treatment and care. We consider ourselves privileged to serve a diverse population across Cheshire and Merseyside, celebrating the many religions, faiths, and cultures that enrich our region - including the people we support and care for, and those who work beside us.
We recognise there is more to do, and our focus on anti-racism remains vital.
If you feel worried or unsafe, please remember that support is always available. Please speak to your line manager, have a look at our support hub which is full of resources and signposting, or contact our Multi Ethic Colleagues’ Network MECN
As a Trust, aligned with the NHS Constitution, we believe in respect, dignity and that everyone counts – regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity.
Please continue to look after each other, showing kindness and living our values.
