Staff at Willow House came together for a heartfelt ‘Bring a Plant’ event held in memory of much-loved colleague, Toni, who sadly passed away last year.

Team members each brought along a plant to be incorporated into a planned sensory garden that will be developed during an upcoming volunteering day organised by the Trust's charity, Mersey Cares. The event which is scheduled to take place in July will also be supported by Mersey Care gardening volunteers, Willow House staff, service users and members of Toni’s family.

The new garden will include updated seating areas, raised beds planted with flowers and herbs as well as a permanent memorial sundial, which has been funded by the charity. The area will offer a tranquil, sensory space for both patients and staff to relax, connect, and reflect.

Melanie Davies, Clinical Team Manager, said:

“We always wanted a sensory garden and wanted to tie in a memorial element, so Toni's name is very close to it. We’d like to create a calming space for patients and staff. Many patients are diagnosed with dementia here and so being able to offer them a peaceful, comforting space, as well as their families, will be so welcome."

The garden volunteering day will take place on July 16, with a grand opening including cakes and celebrations to follow.
