DT Hughes, sub-contracting for Scottish Power, are carrying out electrical cabling works on Queens Drive and Thomas Drive in Liverpool (close to the end of the M62). This involves lane closures and traffic controls outside Broadgreen Hospital which includes our Broadoak Unit.

These extensive works began this week and are expected to be completed by Wednesday 5 November. During this period, travel disruption in the surrounding area of the hospital site is inevitable with delays and queuing traffic anticipated.

As this affects our Broadoak Unit, LHCH and Broadgreen, we’ve linked in with the contractors to keep disruption minimised as far as possible. We’ve made sure that appropriate arrangements are put in place for blue light emergency and patient access and for staff and visitor movement to and from the hospital site.

Phases of work

Road crossing at Queens Drive

  • Start date: 23 July 2025
  • Duration: Up to 5 days
  • Traffic impact: Reduction to one lane in each direction over the Rocket Flyover, and the M62 slip road to turn right onto Queens Drive will also be narrowed to a single lane.

Central reservation and lane works

  • Estimated start: w/c 28 July 2025
  • Duration: Approximately 7 days
  • Traffic impact: Continued single-lane running in both directions. The Queens Drive gate to the hospital site will be restricted to entrance only – there will be no way for vehicles to exit the hospital site directly onto Queens Drive. Vehicles should exit the site via Thomas Drive. Access to the hospital site and the LHCH multi-storey car park from Thomas Drive will remain unaffected.

Works along Thomas Drive

  • Provisional start date: 13 August 2025
  • Duration: Expected until 30 September 2025
  • Traffic impact: One lane to remain open in each direction throughout. Parking restrictions will apply where necessary to facilitate safety zones, but no full road closure is expected.

Following the completion of Phase 3, the scheme will continue through residential areas towards Rocky Lane. The entire project is scheduled to conclude by 5 November 2025. We’re aware of the timeline which is close to the planned date for our move from Broadoak to the new Mossley Hill site expected in November.

Considerations:

  • Where possible, ensure patients allow extra journey time when attending appointments on site.
  • Please ensure visiting relatives are aware of the travel disruption in advance.
  • All staff should plan travel in advance and allow extra time for journeys to and from the hospital site.
  • Staff may wish to consider alternative travel to the hospital site – walk, cycle, scooter etc.
  • To date, no public transport timetable changes or planned route changes have been planned.
  • No planned power outages are expected at any stage during these works.

We will keep you updated on any changes to these phased roadworks.
