NHS organisations have been changing at pace, driven by rising demand, workforce and financial pressures, and national priorities.

As we move forward with the NHS 10‑Year Plan and neighbourhood health, together we will build on our foundations and be ready for the next chapter of transformation, so we can deliver outstanding care and a great place to work, now and in the future.

Survey feedback provides a clear picture of what it feels like to work at Mersey Care. Some of what we heard may have been difficult, and it’s clear there are areas where we are doing well and areas where we need to improve. The survey also reflects strong teamwork, supportive line management, and the difference your work makes. In the NHS Staff Survey, we again ranked highly among the 16 Trusts in our region: first for inclusion, reward and recognition, and teamwork; and second for safe and healthy (wellbeing and absence), line management, motivation, and morale. These foundations matter, and they don’t happen by accident.

However, we know not everyone has the same experience. In some areas, we need to focus on making it easier and safer to speak up, widening opportunities to lead and develop, and strengthening a compassionate, supportive, just and learning culture.

We want to ensure equity, so all staff have the same experience with fair access to opportunity, and a workplace where everyone feels included and respected, regardless of role, background or where they work. We are focussed on improving communication and decision-making so it’s timelier, more open and transparent, with earlier involvement and decisions that are clear, consistent and explained.

We will demonstrate our values; Care, Accountability, Respect, Enthusiasm, and Support in our daily actions. This starts with personal responsibility: each of us shapes the culture we create, in every interaction and decision. Our values should guide how we care for people and treat each other, including speaking up when something isn’t right and reflecting on the impact of our behaviour. We want everyone to feel respected, listened to and able to be themselves at work, supported by kind, compassionate leadership, high‑quality supervision, and teams that look out for one another.

Our commitment is simple: we will listen, involve and act. Throughout June, we are holding Mega Conversation sessions where you will hear the latest key messages, have opportunities to ask questions and your suggestions listened to and heard.

Based on your feedback we will agree clear priorities, timescales and owners for the changes and improvements. You will see regular updates on the progress being made.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views. Your voice is heard, and it will drive change. We are committed to a more supportive, healthier working environment, with the conditions you need to learn, develop and be your best, and we know there is more to do.

Together we are Mersey Care.
