Be inspired to get involved in research activities by learning about some of our fantastic Mersey Care nurses who are making a difference through research.
Advanced Clinical Practitioners Amanda Close and Laura Temple
Amanda Close and Laura Temple recently completed a clinical audit on osteoporosis management and the prevention of fragility fractures. They are also planning a service evaluation to demonstrate the value of Advanced Clinical Practice in community bed-based intermediate care.
They said: ‘’Research is one of our four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice and as such we regularly engage in research activity to improve care and service delivery within our integrated care unit.’’
Nurse Practitioner Sheree Desson
Sheree Desson champions research in her role as a Nurse Practitioner on Iris Ward, a mental health inpatient ward in St Helens. She said:
"As a nurse, I am invested in patient care and service improvements, this is why I campaign for more nurses to be involved in research. We all face challenges and without research projects those challenges will only grow. Our patients are voice of change, but it will only happen if more people get involved in making those positive changes a reality. Research is everyone’s business."
Registered Mental Health Nurse Amy Madden
Amy Madden is working hard to upskill staff and student nurses so they can better support patients who self-harm. She said:
“Research is an important aspect of delivering evidenced based models of care. I have taken an active role in the upskilling of both staff and student nurses in relation to the Self-Harm Pathway via teaching sessions. I have recently collaborated on a publication in this area and aspire to be involved in more research opportunities in the future.”
