We’re delighted to share that Walter has received a British Journal of Nursing Bronze Award in the Mental Health Nurse of the Year category, recognising his exceptional contribution to mental health nursing through clinical leadership, research, and advocacy for inclusion.
As a senior clinical nurse and honorary lecturer, Walter champions culturally competent, person-centred care that promotes belonging, equality, and psychological safety for patients and colleagues alike.
- Published work (2025) exploring support for Black and internationally recruited nurses through cultural celebrations
- Led evaluation of restraint and de-escalation practices in secure inpatient wards, helping drive improvements in trauma-informed care and patient dignity
- Supports the next generation of nurses through teaching, mentorship and structured clinical supervision, contributing to strong quality and governance outcomes.
